Herdade dos Sarilhos

The Estate

"Herdade" is a large rural estate, mainly of southern Portugal (Alentejo and Algarve), typically consisting of expanses of land for sowing, woodlands (cork oaks and holm oaks), and often a manor house or farmhouse.

"Sarilho", among other meanings, is a kind of winding machine used to wind the threads of corn cobs to make skeins; "sarilhos" is plural of "sarilho".

"Herdade dos Sarilhos" estate is located between "Herdade da Caldeira" estate and "Monte das Dobadouras" estate, on a dirt road that begins on Municipal Road 532 (the road that connects São Luís to Vila Nova de Milfontes), approximately at km 5.
It is situated in the Southwest Alentejo and Vicentine Coast Natural Park, borders the Mira River for more than 1 km, and has around 10 km of hiking trails to explore.
At 10 km, we find the picturesque Vila Nova de Milfontes and its beautiful beaches; to the opposite direction and at the same distance, the genuinely Alentejo village of São Luís.

The Main House

In the Alentejo region, a "monte", in a broad sense, is a rural property, more or less extensive, and its respective facilities.

In a narrower sense, a "monte" is the architectural ensemble of the main house, outbuildings, and dependencies.

Considering only the main house, at Herdade dos Sarilhos' "monte" one finds:

- five bedrooms, two with 160cm x 200cm beds; two with two 90cm x 20cm beds each; and a small room with an 80cm x 200cm bed;
- large living and dining room;
- fully equipped kitchen;
- laundry room (washing machine and dryer);
- landscaped outdoor area with barbecue, wood-fired oven, and private swimming pool.

Lazy Hikers' Cabins

The estate also has some small wooden houses, each with:
- a bedroom with two single beds measuring 80cm x 200cm or one bed measuring 160cm x 200cm;
- a bathroom with shower;
- a living room with kitchenette;
- equipped with an induction hob, oven, microwave and fridge-freezer.
